How to Upscale 1080p Video to 4K

By the ClearPix team · Oct 25, 2026 · 2 min read

Choose the 3840 px target in ClearPix to upscale a 1080p video to 4K while keeping its aspect ratio and audio. Processing runs locally in your browser. Short clips are fastest; longer clips are accepted on WebCodecs but can run slower and export at a lower frame rate.

What 1080p to 4K means

A standard 1920×1080 frame becomes 3840×2160. ClearPix applies Real-ESRGAN super-resolution frame by frame rather than stretching the whole video once. The model predicts additional detail; it cannot recreate information that was never captured.

The output keeps the original audio track. It does not change a flat, noisy or heavily compressed source into studio footage, and it does not remove motion blur or subtitle text.

Steps

  1. Open the ClearPix video upscaler and drop in an MP4, WebM, MOV or MKV file.
  2. Select the 3840 px / 4K target. Use a lower target if you only need HD or want to compare quality and processing time.
  3. Start processing and keep the tab open. You can cancel before export; nothing has been uploaded to a server.
  4. Play the original and result side by side. Check motion, faces and fine texture before downloading.

Length and performance limits

  • WebCodecs is fastest for clips up to 60 seconds. It is a recommendation, not a hard cap.
  • The ffmpeg fallback is capped at 15 seconds.
  • Longer WebCodecs jobs use a 360-frame budget, so very long clips can export at a lower frame rate.
  • A 4K job can take several minutes because every kept frame goes through the model. Device GPU and source complexity matter.

If you only need a short segment, trim it first. That is usually more useful than waiting for an entire long video to finish.

What to check in the result

Look for temporal consistency: texture that changes from frame to frame can shimmer even when a single frame looks sharp. Fine text may remain unreadable, and compression blocks can become more visible after sharpening.
