Upscale AI art without losing its style

Many AI images arrive at around 1024 px on the long side, which is soft on a 4K screen and too small for print. ClearPix enlarges them 2× or 4× with Real-ESRGAN super-resolution, rebuilding clean edges and texture without changing the composition or palette. It is free, needs no sign-up, and runs entirely in your browser — your images and downloads stay on your device, and the model works offline once cached.

Midjourney, Stable Diffusion and DALL·E outputs are often 1024 px on the long side. That is fine in a chat window and soft the moment it fills a 4K display or goes to a print shop. Super-resolution adds pixels without re-rendering the image: the composition, palette and style stay yours, while edges and texture are rebuilt at the larger size.

What is AI super-resolution?

Real-ESRGAN is a neural network trained on real-world image degradation. Unlike a simple resize, it reconstructs plausible high-frequency detail — sharper edges, recovered texture, cleaned-up compression artifacts. ClearPix runs the model in overlapping tiles on your own GPU (WebGPU) or CPU (WebAssembly), so even large images process safely without any server.

When to use 2× vs 4×

  • 4×— small thumbnails, compressed social-media saves, AI-art drafts.
  • 2×— moderate enlargements where you want a natural, less sharpened look.
  • For very large sources, downsize first and let the model rebuild the detail.

Only process images you own or have explicit permission to modify.

How it works

1

Export at the highest resolution you have

Download the original PNG from your generator instead of a compressed preview. Larger sources upscale faster and keep more real detail; 2048 px is the input ceiling (1400 px without WebGPU).

2

Choose the target scale

2× takes a 1024 px image to 2048 px for most web layouts and smaller prints; 4× takes it to 4096 px, roughly 13.6 inches at 300 DPI or a full-width 4K display. The sharpening slider is on by default and can be lowered if the art looks over-crisp.

3

Download the PNG

The export is a full-resolution PNG with the original composition and palette. Upscaling adds plausible texture; it does not redraw hands, fix text or recover details the generator never produced.

Your file never leaves your device. All AI processing runs locally in your browser on your own hardware — there is no upload, no queue, and no copy stored on any server. You can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and everything still works.

Engineering deep-diveBrowser Image Upscaling: How We Got 4× Super-Resolution 14× Faster — Then Made It Slower on PurposeTwo complaints arrived in the same week. The first was about time: upscaling a 2048px photo took nine seconds, even on the WebGPU path, and users on weaker hardware saw the progress bar crawl. The second was about taste: the results looked over-cooked — skin turned plastic, edges grew light halos, and if your source was a JPEG, the compression blocks came back louder than before. One complaint asked us to go faster; the other, if you squinted, asked us to add less. This is the story of how we chased the first one honestly, and why the fix for the second one ended up being a dial that gives some of that speed back.Read the deep-dive
