Remove a watermark, then upscale the photo

ClearPix removes the watermark first, at the original resolution, then enlarges the cleaned image 2× or 4× with Real-ESRGAN super-resolution. Cleaning first means the upscaler never sharpens the mark’s edges, and the erased area is rebuilt only once, before it is enlarged. Both steps are free, need no sign-up, and run entirely in your browser: the photo is never uploaded, and the models keep working offline once cached.

One workflow for the two jobs people usually do together: erase the overlay with AI inpainting, then rebuild resolution with super-resolution. Start with the watermark remover below; when the clean image is downloaded, the upscaler is one click away.

How does in-browser watermark removal work?

ClearPix uses MI-GAN, an inpainting neural network from Picsart Research (ICCV 2023), compiled to ONNX and executed by ONNX Runtime Web. Automatic detection combines a text-detection model with visual heuristics; when you confirm the boxes (or paint your own mask), the model analyzes the surrounding texture and synthesizes what should be underneath — on your own GPU via WebGPU, or on your CPU via WebAssembly. The image data never travels over the network, which makes this the most private way to clean up your photos.

Tips for best results

  • Let auto-detect run first — dismiss any wrong boxes with one click, then hit Remove.
  • When brushing, cover the whole watermark, slightly overlapping its edges.
  • Use a smaller brush for thin text and a larger one for logos.
  • Run the remover twice over stubborn areas — each pass refines the fill.

Only process images you own or have explicit permission to modify. Removing a watermark does not change the copyright status of the underlying content.

How it works

1

Remove the watermark

Drop the image and let auto-detect box the text or logo. AI inpainting rebuilds the background at the original resolution.

2

Download the clean image

Export the repaired PNG or JPG. Nothing has left your device, and the model is already cached for the next step.

3

Upscale 2× or 4×

Open the image upscaler and drop the clean file in. Real-ESRGAN rebuilds detail in tiles and exports a full-resolution PNG.

Your file never leaves your device. All AI processing runs locally in your browser on your own hardware — there is no upload, no queue, and no copy stored on any server. You can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and everything still works.

Engineering deep-diveAutomatic Watermark Detection in the Browser: YOLO + OCR, and the Glyph-Level Masks That Made It WorkClearPix removes watermarks entirely client-side — no upload, no server GPU. This post is the detection half of that story: how we get a browser to find watermarks on its own using a YOLO watermark detector in ONNX plus a PP-OCR text detector, why we show low-confidence boxes instead of silently dropping them, and how a seed-and-grow glyph mask pushed detection precision from 41.4% to 43.2% without losing a single text case.
