Upscale a GIF to 2× or 4× — free & private

ClearPix upscales animated GIFs 2× or 4× with Real-ESRGAN super-resolution, frame by frame, entirely in your browser. The AI model runs locally on your GPU or CPU, the original frame timing and transparency are preserved, and the result downloads as a normal looping GIF. Free, no sign-up, no upload — your file never leaves your device.

Enlarge every frame of an animated GIF with Real-ESRGAN, then re-encode the animation in your browser. No upload, no queue, no watermark.

What does AI GIF upscaling do?

GIF is a palette format, so ordinary enlargement shows blocky pixels. ClearPix decodes each frame, runs Real-ESRGAN super-resolution on it, then quantizes the enhanced frames back into a standard GIF. Frame delays are kept, so the animation plays at the same speed, and transparency is preserved when the source uses it.

When 2× is enough, and when to pick 4×

  • 2× — small GIFs that only need a modest bump, with fewer artifacts.
  • 4× — tiny reaction GIFs and pixel-art exports that need a real resolution jump.
  • Very large GIFs: compress first, then upscale the smaller file.

GIF upscaling questions

Can I upscale an animated GIF for free?

Yes. Drop the GIF, pick 2× or 4× and press Upscale. Every frame is enhanced with Real-ESRGAN and re-encoded into a normal animated GIF. There is no sign-up, no credit limit and no watermark on the export; the AI runs in your browser.

Does the animation keep its speed?

Yes. Each frame keeps its original delay — GIF stores timing in hundredths of a second — so the output plays at the same speed and loop behaviour. Frames are not re-timed or interpolated.

How large can a GIF be?

Up to 20 MB and 150 frames. Upscaling runs the AI on every frame, so it is capped at 60 frames and a longest side of 800 px — compress the GIF first if it is bigger.

Are my GIFs uploaded?

Never. Decoding, AI inference and encoding all happen in your browser. Open the network panel while processing: nothing is sent. The model downloads once and is cached for later runs.

Why is the upscaled GIF larger than the original?

Upscaling adds real pixels, and GIF has no inter-frame compression, so the file grows. Re-encoding at 256 colors keeps it as small as the format allows; compress the result if you need a smaller file.

Only upscale GIFs you own or have permission to edit.
